Tony Dungy

This next post is a tribute to one of my favorite coaches of all time, Tony Dungy.
Tony Dungy was one of the best coaches to ever coach in the NFL. Retiring this year, Dungy has retired holding many coaching records. Starting out his career as a defensive back coach of the Steelers in 1982 Dungy was soon promoted to defensive coordinator in 1984. After five more years with the Steelers, Dungy left and became the defensive back coach in Kansas City. Three years later Tony Dungy became the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, for the four years Dungy stayed in Minnesota their defense was ranked number one. In 1996, Tony finally achieved his goal of becoming a head coach when he was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the 6years Dungy was coach of the Bucs, they went to the playoffs 4 times. When 2002 came around, the Buccaneers fired Dungy who was soon hired by the defensively challenged Indianapolis Colts. Along with taking the Colts to the playoffs every year since he was hired, setting a record for most consecutive playoff appearances by a head coach with 10, Tony Dungy and the Colts finally managed to win the Superbowl in January of 2007 against the Chicago Bears. Dungy became the first African-American coach to win a Superbowl. Tony Dungy retired from coaching in the NFL on January 12, 2009. Tony Dungy will always be remembered as one of the best coaches to coach in the NFL.

Superbowl Capable Teams

There are only five teams I can see so far making it to the superbowl this year. First of all, of course, the Steelers, im not going to talk about them though because i have in my previous posts. The next team on this list is the Patriots, back from a knee injury early in the 2008 season, Tom Brady is healthy and ready to lead the Patriots (who have proven they can do well even without Brady) to another Superbowl. They might not get another 16-0 season but you can sure bet that theyre ready to redeem their humiliating loss in the 2007 season. Another team from the AFC that has a superbowl chance, is the Baltimore Ravens. After being down in the slumps in the past few seasons the ravens finally hired a new head coach and picked up a star quarterback in last years draft who have both proven they can work in the NFL. With an improved offence and a dominating Defense, you can be sure that the Ravens are going to bring some competition to the NFL. The next team, this time from the NFC is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings, like the Ravens have a spectacular defense that shuts down any offensive game against them. On the other side of the balll the Vikings have Adrian Peterson, currently the best Runningback in the league and a talented O-line to block for him. The Vikings also have a Wr core that is growing in talent, the only thing that they're missing is a good Quarterback to lead the whole squad. Without a good Qb the Vikings have a chance at the Superbowl, however, if they get a good Qb, like Brett Favre, or anyone who can lead the team, then they are going to the superbowl. The last team I am looking at right now at going to the superbowl is the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons started fresh last year with a new coach, a new runningback, and a new Quarterback who all did excellent in their positions. Michael Turner, their Rb crushed the defense with his back-breaking trucks and sped past others with his incredible speed while Matt Ryan, their Qb threw all over the Dbs findng his recievers and becoming rookie of the year. These five teams are the teams I can see, right now, going to the Superbowl.

Brett Favre

This whole Brett Favre thing is all over the news. Brett Favre has been talking to the Minnesota Vikings and is trying to decide whether to return, once again to the NFL. Really? again, the same thing thing happened last year and it was all anyone talked about all summer. Quite frankly its very annoying, Brett Favre needs to make a decision, yes, or no. I'm not trying to say i dont want Favre to come back, because i do, i want to see Brett return, but if he's going to cause all this commotion and not come back its going to be very upsetting. i was angry when he retired last year, after causing a huge fight and a huge commotion in the summer he returns to the NFL only to play one season. Really? this is getting rediculous now. he needs to just decide, do i want to play or not and if its a yes play a couple more years, if its a no stay retired and dont try to come back every summer once training camp comes around. But if he does return, and he comes back for the Vikings, the Vikings are going to the superbowl. All they really need is a good Quarterback and theyre set.
